Serenity: (noun) the state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled
Sage: (adjective) having, showing, or indicating profound wisdom
Navigating life’s challenges can often leave us feeling shipwrecked and lost at sea as the waves of life come crashing over us. Is it at all possible to not only find serenity in the midst of troubled waters, but to also sail towards a brighter future? If you’ve come across my website, I want to reassure you that the answer to that question is yes. Maybe you’ve tried counseling before, and it wasn’t a good fit. Maybe you’ve been afraid to “dig up” the past and have avoided reaching out to seek help. Or maybe you’ve taken advantage of technological advances that allow you to access mental health resources at your fingertips (apps, following popular self-help “gurus” on social media, e.g.) and it felt too impersonal or not relevant to your life experience. I launched Serenity & Sage Counseling, LLC because it is my heart’s desire to meet you where you are and guide you on a path to healing and wellness. Instead of finding all of the right answers, our humanity offers opportunities for individuals to get to know some of the unknowns and embrace uncertainty by being present to observe memories and reflections of ancestral challenges and healing spaces (e.g. the gift of storytelling), embracing language and cultural differences that revere love, and allowing courage to settle us down into our sense of self and belonging.
A bit about me:
As a black, cisgender womxn, I have been working as a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical for the past 20 years. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a compassionate facilitator. My practice’s focus centers around person-centered care and/or "person-in-environment"; which encompasses self-determination to support self-discovery, acknowledgement of your personal strengths and intersections within systems, identifying strongholds that have held you back in the past, but have (thankfully) brought you here, to the point where you are courageous enough to seek help.
Outside of work, I am a daughter, sister (to a fraternal twin and 3 older siblings), wife, mother to a teenager, and mom to 2 African grey parrots (“Diamond” and “Silver”), and 2 dogs (“Atlas” and “Smart”). I have a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Michigan and a Master's of Social Work from Wayne State University where my studies focused on race, class, gender, gender identity and expression, socio-economic background, and the impacts of those intersectional identities on mental, physical and emotional health outcomes.
Next steps:
I am so glad that you are here, this was a very brave and wise (sage) first step toward achieving the serenity that you deserve. I look forward to supporting you on this journey as we address issues like stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, shame, and anything else that is holding you back from experiencing the life you’ve been longing for. I’d be happy to talk with you to see if we’d be a good fit to work together and answer any questions you might have. Inquire above or via contact page.

is located on the traditional, yet seized territory of the Piscataway, Susquehannock, and Nacotchtank (Anacostan) peoples. I pay respect to elders both past and present. I honor the courageous people who lived, do live, and will live on this land. I acknowledge the violence that resulted from colonization, and hope and work for the acknowledgement, remembrance, and return to the healing and sustainable practices that took agency over this land. The land that continues to provide and nurture us.
